The moment IV- 100x70 cm – oil on Linen 2016
Allegories 2016 | Paintings
Pursuing realism in a rather formal manner has always been one of Fadl’s goals as a painter; also, incorporating diverse approaches in painting to convey a coherent sense of harmony and structure in his artwork.
Fadl uses his figurative approach in painting to study emotions associated with remoteness, seclusion, and isolation. Retaining a sense of privacy, where the viewer is almost placed behind glass, one is drawn-in to establish a connection with the image, slowly exploring its dimension and sense of place.
Elements of still-life and abstracted landscapes are evident in an aim to support the full portrayal of these feelings. By implementing them in a visual context, they aid in creating a storytelling framework that intertwines with the figures and their gestural qualities.
Fadl’s paintings show the importance of the surroundings and space. This acts as an integral aesthetic component of the image, by the contrasting geometrical and organic symbols surrounding the figure.
As the exhibition’s theme unfolds, one can’t help but notice the exchange of stance between ancient and modern – whether between figures or their surroundings – creating a dialogue we relate to psychologically and physically.
